I’ve been a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic since 1990, and have been in healthcare since 1982. Many times, I have relocated within California and even did a tour of duty in the US ARMY from October 1995 to September 2000.
Having had a spinal injury while on active duty, the US Army procedure at that time was to give unlimited amounts of NSAIDS, barbiturates and a multitude of Opioids. From early 2000 and until my honorable discharge in September 2000, I was taking large doses of OxyContin. The Army never warned me or advised me of the possibility of drug dependency or addiction, as at that time, OxyContin was the top of the line pain medicine for injuries such as mine.
I was discharged with a 30 day supply of OxyContin and a serious drug dependency to deal with. Access to the VA system at that time was extremely hard, and I couldn’t get in to the system until 2007.
